The United for Smart Sustainable Cities (U4SSC) is a global United Nations initiative, coordinated by ITU, UNECE, and UN-Habitat, and supported by CBD, ECLAC, FAO, UNDESA, UNDP, UNECA, UNESCO, UNEP, UNEP-FI, UNFCCC, UNIDO, UNOP, UNU-EGOV, UN-Women, UNWTO and WMO. This means that all those who join the U4SSC KPI program will be partnered with the aforementioned 18 United Nations Organizations. The cities who partner with the United Nations are compiled and promoted globally as being leaders in industry, culture, prosperity, and conservation. This promotion by a massive global organization will make your community more attractive to an increasing number of productive potential citizens.
As a consequence for your community looking more attractive to an increased number of people, businesses and organizations are likely to follow suit. The certification acquired for becoming a smart, sustainable city will not only make your current citizens happier and more productive, it will also give your community positive global exposure.
The U4SSC KPI program is a tool that allows city leaders to govern their communities more effectively and with additional help, should they need it. More than just a tool however, the U4SSC organizes the measures that go into what makes up a community and provides the strengths, areas for improvement, and potential avenues for improving. The solutions will never be chosen by outside agents and will always be left up to the leadership of your community.
